What I tried:

  • Rose Bubble Tea and Matcha Milk Tea. ($7.25 each)

Pro:

  • New and unique concept to have a make-it-yourself Bubble Tea café. You get to see what goes into your drink and it is fun and interactive.

  • Well thought out and easy to follow through the instructions as do what we should be doing.

Con:

  • Having a little bit more freedom with creating the drinks. I really wanted to make a rose milk tea creation and was told multiple times I could not. However a few days later, I notice on their Instagram that that creation was pretty common. I understand that mixing juice and milk tea is not what is recommended at the assembly line when creating a drink, however I feel that a little more freedom of choice should be given.

Must Try:

  • You can select from fresh tea and milk tea bases with colorful flavor options like durian, papaya, rose, sesame, taro, and lychee. You start by deciding if you want it in juice, milk or slush base. Give any flavor a try! It is all depending on what you feel like having that day.

Service:

  • Staff wear white lab coats and are there at every part of the way helping you out with the process.

  • They did ask if that was my first time there and went through the whole process.

  • Once selecting your flavors and add ons, your name will get taken and the Lab Technicians will create your drinks for you.

  • Friendly and informative.

Food:

  • The rose fruit tea had two parts rose, black tea and tapioca pearls. It was very delicious but extremely sweet. Maybe next time I will only get one part rose and more tea. You get to choose all the way from the type of pearls (popping yogurt pearls, tapioca, boba, coconut jelly, etc) to the type of milks (evaporated milk, soy milk)  and sugars (maple syrup, brown sugar, simple syrup).

  • The matcha milk tea had two parts matcha powder, brown sugar boba, evaporated milk and simply syrup. It was creamy and delicious.

  • The pricing of each drink goes up depending on what kind of milk, boba and flavoring you put in.

  • The tastes of the bubble teas were good and what I expect bubble tea to taste like. Nothing out of the ordinary or unique in its taste.

Atmosphere:

  • The exterior and interior of this tea shop is wonderful and very unique!

  • A distinct laboratory-themed branding with stainless steel and white walls throughout is evident. In addition, tea ingredients are presented in vials and syringes. Staff wear lab coats and the assembly line starts with you grabbing a cup and a stainless steal tray.

  • As you enter, the first thing you notice is the huge mural on the wall. The mural gives you a step by step in the tea creating process.

  • At the back of the store, where you wait for your drinks to be made, you will sea a feature wall with lab coats. You can try them on and take photos under balloons that spell out the store's name.

Overall:

  • I did enjoy creating and seeing the process of making a traditional bubble tea drink. I would return again sometime now that I know I can create a Rose Milk Tea as that is my favourite flavour combination. Give Labothery a try!! It is a fun outing with friends or a date.
