What I tried:
Half a dozen doughnuts for $12. Dirtier chocolate, London Fog, Cookies and Cream, Cinnamon Toast, Sugar Munkii and Spicy Pineapple.
Beautiful exterior and interior.
Comes heavily recommended from everyone I spoke to that have visited Ottawa before.
I was in Ottawa for less than 24 hours and this was a great stopover for a quick take out.
The "Dirtier Donut" and the London Fog Donut were my favorites. My partner and I decided to try these doughnuts on the drive back to Hamilton from Ottawa. The moment I bit into the "Dirtier Donut" (halfway into our 6 hour trip) I told him that I wanted 12 of these doughnuts ASAP cause they were THAT good. Sadly he did not turn the car around.
Sit in for great latte's, teas and kombucha's.
It was not busy that early Monday morning, so I got to speak to someone about how SuzyQ came about. What started out as a small business went on to a little shack in parking lot and then to this full blown store.
The gentleman that greeted me explained to me the flavors they had that day and which were their best sellers.
Friendly staff and patient (because I was taking eons to decide on flavours).
I have to tell you, I have had some amazing donuts in Hamilton, Toronto, Montreal, etc. SuzyQ Doughnuts are at the top of my list.
Every single flavor we got was delicious and fresh. Personally, I find that other places with "unique" flavours make their doughnuts either too sweet or too bready. When this happens, they actual flavour that they are trying to create is overpowered. With that being said, SuzyQ hits the spot when it comes to recreating unique flavours into doughnut form.
Every single bite of the London fog tasted like I was drinking tea. It was not too sweet but also packed with flavour.
The cookies and Cream and cinnamon toast flavors were also spot on to their names.
If you are like me who isn't into really sweet desserts, then the dirtier chocolate is for your. Chocolate batter, dark chocolate glaze and dark chocolate topping. It had the bitter notes of dark chocolate but also subtlety sweet to the taste.
Extremely fair in price considering how expensive doughnuts are at other independent bakeries.
The extremely yellow exterior of the building is hard to miss.
Wood and yellow modern décor fill up the space.
Bright and airy.
I am so happy I gave SuzyQ a try. I am already planning another trip to Ottawa JUST FOR THESE DONUTS. Unless you know anyone coming from there? Send them my way! Until then, I will be dreaming of those Dirtier Donuts.
