What I tried:
Lobster spaghetti, eel stuffed zucchini flowers, deep fried soft shell crab, 2-way baked oysters, foie gras tartlet and lamb patty with prunes.
Joe beef beer.
The food is exceptional and worth every penny and wait.
Amazing service and beautiful atmosphere.
The garden patio seating behind the restaurant is a visual overload. You will be seated among plants and vegetable.
Getting a reservation here is next to impossible. I was very very lucky to have dined here twice this summer alone. Try calling a week to a day before your desired reservation date to attempt a last minute table. Be flexible with your timing and if you are a party of two, I urge you to sit at the bar! It is a magical place.
Food items here are extremely overpriced, but for the popularity and demand this restaurant receives I am sure no one cares about the prices.
The Lobster Pasta is Joe Beef's signature top selling dish. Try that and you taste buds will thank you.
Give the Joe Beef ale a try as well. $6 for a great tasting beer brewed locally.
The first time I dined here, we were sitting at the bar facing the oyster shucking station and our server was the oyster shucker himself, Tristan. He was the best server I think I have ever had in the history of dining anywhere. He was attentive, concerned and translated the entire menu to me in English. He joked and spoke to my boyfriend and I the entire night. I was extremely sick that night and had to leave early and Tristan packed everything to go for us and wished me well.
The second time I dined there was a few months later, I sat in the same spot and although Tristan was not my server, he was there and asked me how I was doing. He remembered me and made jokes about me being sick. Everyone who works there are very professional and warm. My server Ludo, even gave me some free swag because I was such a fan of Joe Beef.
Both times the food was exceptional and great for sharing with another person in order to try more items.
There was nothing I tried that was disappointing. Classic french with a modern take.
It is a small restaurant but a very cozy one. Dimly lit and noisy from the full capacity.
I will be going back to Joe Beef every time I visit Montreal. This time I must try the desserts.
