What I tried:
Focaccia Fried Calamari, Pappardelle, Garganelli Carbonara.
Beer and Winter Spritz
Located conveniently at the corner of Ottawa and Main. A great addition to the ever changing and developing food scene on Ottawa Street.
Casual Italian bistro inspired food with a modern twist.
I went in with a friend on a Monday afternoon and had the place to ourselves. This gave us an opportunity to get to know the restaurant more.
The calamari is something I believe I would get every time I go back to Caro.
I only had one cocktail that afternoon, but I would suggest trying them all if you had the chance. Great selection and unique flavors.
I have also heard that they make a pretty great pizza. Give that a try as well!
Wonderful and extremely friendly.
The manager really took care of us and answered any questions we had.
Attentive and was enthusiastic about being in the neighborhood.
The Focaccia Fried Calamari was fresh and very succulent. It had just the perfect amount of crunch to chew and it wasn’t too salty. Great start to a meal. The marinara that accompanied the dish was also different from other calamari dishes out there. It was a marinara-garlic aioli twist with capers and it was divine.
The Mushroom Pappardelle was cooked al-dente. What might seem like a simple truffle butter-pecorino mix, turned into a pretty great pasta dish full of flavors. Personally, I am not a fan of truffle oils or butters as often times chefs use it on everything and it overpowers the dish. Fresh truffles are the only way to go. However, the chefs at Caro does use it sparingly on this pappardelle dish and with that achieve a great balance.
The Garganelli Carbonara is to die for. I wished there was more on my plate because I ate that dish extremely fast. It was superb. Terrifically creamy and the ratio of pancetta to pasta was perfect.
Huge bay windows let you look into the restaurant if you are driving or walking by.
Modern atmosphere with white tables and chairs and wooden floors.
Two feature walls. A bright red splash tiled wall behind the bar and my personal favorite the live plant wall (Great for that Instagram shot).
As we dined there for lunch, the room received amazing sunlight and it was very bright and airy.
By the bar and kitchen, the word "Beloved" is seen as soon as you walk into this restaurant. Caro means beloved in Italian.
This place gets extremely busy for dinner everyday! I am glad they open every day of the week. I will most definitely be back again soon to try the other items on the menu! Give this place a try as you will not be disappointed.
